Xiao Niu has analyzed, this time the U.S. Department of State to adjust the visa renewal policy is to respond to Trump’s first day in office signed a series of executive order requirements, in particular an order on the potential immigrant applicants and visa applicants for extreme scrutiny of the order, which calls for increased screening of foreigners intending to enter the U.S., and evaluation of all existing U.S. visa programs. In fact, the original expiration limit of the visa renewal without interview is 12 months, and then by the impact of the new crown epidemic this policy was suspended for a period of time until November 2021 Chinese visa applicants to the U.S. to be able to use the policy again, and in order to enhance the efficiency of the work of the U.S. Department of State to the original 12 months of the expiration limit extended to 48 months, which is the equivalent of the policy back to the liberation of the former overnight!

When submitting an application for a waiver of interview, the Embassy system will ask the applicant to answer a series of questions about the conditions of the waiver, and the system will automatically evaluate whether the applicant meets the requirements of the waiver, and if the applicant passes the system evaluation, the applicant will receive a letter of confirmation of the waiver of interview. If the applicant passes the assessment, he/she will receive an Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter. The applicant is required to send this Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter, together with the completed DS 160 Confirmation Page, passport, visa photo, and all supporting documents to the selected CITIC Bank.

The U.S. Department of State officially explains that there are two main categories of people who can apply for a visa without an interview

The first category: First-time applicants for H 2 temporary agricultural and non-agricultural worker visas, including H 2A and H 2B.

The second category, as well as other nonimmigrant visa applicants who meet the following criteria

Have previously received a nonimmigrant visa other than a B visa.

and are applying for renewal within 12 months of the expiration date of the original visa.

Theoretically, these two categories of requirements apply to all applicants, but the information provided on the official websites of the U.S. embassies and consulates in different countries will be adjusted due to the differentiation of the visa policies of different countries, and the information on the official website of the State Department may not be applicable to each specific country, so we must take the information on the official website of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing as the basis for the application of visas!

Below is the information provided by the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in China and the U.S. Department of State on how Chinese citizens can utilize the No Interview Visa Renewal Policy.

Applicants for F 1 visas must plan to continue the same course of study at the same U.S. school or institution at the same degree level as that on the previously approved visa, and must make an appointment for an in-person interview if the schools listed on the old and new I 20s are different.

H 1B applicants must be employed by the same employer as listed on the previous visa and will be required to attend an interview if the employer is not the same as listed on the old visa and the new Form I 797.

In addition to meeting the requirements for the visa categories listed above, there are two general categories of requirements to qualify for a waiver of an interview, either of which may be met.

One is by age

Applicants under the age of 14 and over the age of 80 who have not been denied a visa on their most recent U.S. visa application may apply for a visa through the Interview Waiver Service.

Applicants must be citizens or residents of China.

The applicant must be physically present in China.

One category is based on past U.S. travel history and visa records.

If the applicant is renewing a previous U.S. visa, the visa is still valid or has not lapsed for more than 12 months.

If you have previously obtained a U.S. visa and can provide the original visa

Must have been at least 14 years of age at the time of issuance of the previous U.S. visa and must have had fingerprints taken.

Must be a citizen or resident of China

Must be physically present in China

The U.S. visa that you plan to renew must have been previously issued by a consular office of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate General in Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, or Hong Kong.

The application must be for the same type of visa.

Finally, it is important to note that applicants who meet the criteria for an interview waiver do not need to be interviewed at an embassy or consulate. However, the waiver does not guarantee that the visa will be approved and in some cases the consulate or embassy may require the applicant to attend an interview.
