Hello, I’m Mr. Chen. Today we are talking about an amazing scientist, Academician Huang Xuhua. His story really makes people’s blood boil!
Have you heard of the title Father of China’s nuclear submarines? That’s right, we’re going to talk about the main character, Academician Huang Xuhua. He’s no ordinary man, for the country’s nuclear submarine cause, he has remained anonymous for 30 years! What kind of spirit is this? Let’s take a look at the legendary life of this great scientist.
Academician Huang Xuhua was born in 1926 in Guangdong in an ordinary village doctor’s family. When he was a child, his ideal was simple: to be a doctor like his parents, to save lives. Who knows that fate played a joke on him and completely changed the trajectory of his life.
In 1937, the Japanese devils launched a full-scale war of aggression against China. 11-year-old Huang Xuhua witnessed the cruelty of the war and saw countless compatriots displaced and brutalized. This war left a deep mark on his young mind. He suddenly realized that it was not enough to be a doctor to save individual patients, but to really change the fate of the country, it was necessary to fundamentally improve the strength of the country.
Thus, Huang Xuhua made up his mind to give up medicine and become an engineer! He wants to study aviation and shipbuilding to build impregnable defense weapons for the country. Don’t you think that’s pretty cool? An 11-year-old boy with such lofty ambitions.
In 1945, at the age of 19, Huang Xuhua got his wish and enrolled in the Department of Shipbuilding Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University. In those days, those who could go to the university were the pride of God. Huang Xuhua was even more remarkable, was admitted to the first place in the specialty, and began his journey to pursue his dream.
In 1958, the new China had just been established, and was still in the process of development. Facing the nuclear threat from western countries, China decided to develop its own nuclear submarine. This was an unprecedented scientific research project! Huang Xuhua was honored to be one of the first 29 people to participate in the development of nuclear submarines. Students, can you imagine the scene at that time? A group of young people, shouldering the heavy responsibility of the motherland, to develop a nuclear submarine from scratch, this is how difficult the task ah!
For the sake of secrecy, Huang Xuhua had to cut off contact with his family and began a life of anonymity. He said goodbye to his aged parents, his young children and his beloved wife, and embarked on an unknown journey alone. 30 years is easy to say, but imagine how much hardship and longing there are.
In those days, the conditions were really hard. There is no computer, they manually calculate No reference material, they go around to collect foreign words No experimental equipment, they do their own simple model. When they were hungry, they nibbled a few mouthfuls of dry bread, and when they were tired, they rested on the table for a while. They have only one goal in mind: to build China’s own nuclear submarine as soon as possible, so that the motherland will no longer be threatened by nuclear weapons!
In 1965, the development of nuclear submarine started. Huang Xuhua and his team came to a remote island and began the arduous process of searching for a deserted island. The conditions on that island were extremely bad, with seven winds blowing twice a year, once for half a year. They lived in a leaky barracks and ate potatoes and cabbage every day. Can you imagine? How much perseverance and determination is needed to carry out highly sophisticated scientific research in such an environment?
After countless tests and calculations, Huang Xuhua and his team finally overcame the seven key technologies of nuclear submarine development, also known as the seven golden flowers. This laid a solid foundation for the development of Chinese nuclear submarines.
On April 29, 1988, at the age of 62, Huang Xuhua made an amazing decision to personally participate in the deep-diving test of the nuclear submarine! You know, this is an unprecedented feat in the world. The fact that the chief designer himself went down to the submarine not only reflected his confidence in his design, but also gave the whole team a piece of mind.
The test was a success! China’s nuclear submarine technology has reached the world’s advanced level. The moment the nuclear submarine surfaced safely, everyone was overcome with emotion and tears. This moment is not only a recognition of their years of hard work, but also an important milestone for China to stand on the world stage.
Today, we bid farewell to Academician Huang Xuhua with infinite respect. The father of China’s nuclear submarine, who has passed through a hundred years, has written the legend of deep-diving life with his life’s work. Thirty years of anonymity, eight thousand deep-diving tests, and finally cast the national weapon to guard the sea. Though Mr. Kennedy has passed away, his spirit will live on forever. His spirit of deep-diving will always illuminate the journey of future generations and inspire us to devote our life’s work to the great cause of national rejuvenation and integrate our personal struggles into the tides of the times. Elder Huang, the world is flourishing as you wished, and the blue waves of the ten thousand miles of the sea will forever glorify your achievements!
