Last month, we talked about the case of American celebrity Wendy Williams, who was suspected to have been framed and put into a mental hospital when she was in a normal state of mind.
Let’s briefly review the case
Wendy has been working on American TV for many years, and is a star-studded presenter, whose star can be seen on trips to Hollywood nowadays. However, in July 2021, her talk show, which had been on the air for more than a decade, suddenly came to an end, and she herself disappeared from the public eye.
Wendy Williams
Three years later, in 2024, Lifetime released a documentary, Where’s Wendy Williams? and the public learned that she had been living in a facility for the treatment of cognitive problems for several years.
What do you mean by cognitive problems?
Wendy’s care team issued a press release stating that Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and dementia in 2023. It’s sad to see that she’s not even 60 years old and she has dementia, and that’s why she suddenly disappeared.
However, earlier this year, the well-known gossip media TMZ shot another documentary, Wendy presented in the state of no difference with normal people, the host of a variety of questions she answered fluently, but showed many years of hosting skills, completely and dementia is not related.
Wendy choked up several times in the documentary, saying that she was simply under house arrest in this so-called care facility. She has no friends, she can’t leave the house, she has to ask permission to do anything, and everything is locked. Even the TMZ documentary was filmed downstairs in the facility through a window, and the conversations were actually recorded.
The crew had to film downstairs.
It makes you wonder if progressive dementia, and the emphasis is on the word progressive, is not reversible, but gets worse over time. Like Alzheimer’s disease as we know it, it’s not possible to be so demented in the first few years that you have to go into a special institution, and then a few years later suddenly get better.
The fact that Wendy is now acting all right suggests that the initial diagnosis was likely faulty and there is no reason to keep her under house arrest.
What’s even more noteworthy is that Wendy’s sudden disappearance was linked to her financial advisor, and it was her bank that initiated the house arrest. The bank forcibly froze her accounts for fear that she was being defrauded and asked the court to initiate a protective financial guardianship, which ultimately led to her house arrest.
All of this was done over the explicit objections of Wendy’s family.
The fact that money was involved makes the matter seem even more suspicious. There’s a video of her talking to the host in a previous post, so you can see for yourself whether she has progressive dementia or not!
Now, a month later, there’s a new development in the story.
On Monday morning, Wendy threw a note from the floor of the care facility that read Help! Wendy!
As you can see, the note is clear and concise.
Wendy was also waving at people from upstairs, once again showing a level of mental competence not associated with dementia.
Wendy’s note.
At approximately 11 15 a.m., the NYPD responded to a 911 call for a welfare check on Wendy.
Shortly thereafter, both the NYPD and an ambulance arrived at the scene of the care facility and took Wendy to the hospital for a psychiatric examination to see if the situation was truly what she said it was.
The police took her away.
According to TMZ, Wendy underwent a capacity test at the hospital, presumably a preliminary mental capacity test.
Unsurprisingly, she scored a 10 out of 10.
TMZ pays hospital informants, police informants, whatever. Journalism is often criticized for its ethics, but the information is mostly accurate.
That’s a totally different story than Wendy’s guardian’s.
In late November 2024, her guardian also claimed Wendy had been permanently disabled and legally incapacitated .
For the past three or four months, the supposedly permanently disabled Wendy seemed to be doing just fine.
At the end of November last year, she was claimed to be permanently disabled.
It’s now being reported that Wendy’s guardian is under investigation for elder abuse.
Because it was Wendy’s elderly father’s 94th birthday last month, Wendy was able to go out on a vacation to Florida to celebrate her father’s birthday.
However, Wendy’s money had been frozen and she needed her guardian to give her money. Upon arriving in Florida, she realized that the card her guardian had given her couldn’t be swiped at all, so she had to embarrassingly ask someone else to help her pay the bill. The guardian is then investigated.
Sources close to the case tell us that the guardian spent all of Wendy’s money on lawyers to defend herself. Squandering all her money on lawyers’ fees.
Wendy’s guardian is under investigation for elder abuse.
The guardian’s name is Sabrina Morrissey, an attorney appointed by the court to take custody of Wendy. She specializes in these types of guardianships and has no interest in Wendy.
She’s a past president of the Women’s Bar Association of New York, and she’s said to regularly represent elderly clients to protect them from fraud, and it’s not clear why she’s doing this, but is it a misunderstanding?
Sabrina Morrissey.
Back to Wendy’s situation.
TMZ says the NYPD has opened two separate investigations into Wendy’s custody.
Additionally, Wendy was interviewed by an adult protection agency. The agency also called Wendy’s niece to ask about her care facility situation.
Adult Protective Services, which is Adult Protective Services, APS, a department in every county in California that specializes in helping the elderly or vulnerable adults, can be understood to be official.
NYPD APS are opened to investigate, it looks like the official is more serious, I hope to bring the truth as soon as possible.
Wendy will be on ABC’s The View this Friday, where she is expected to reveal more of her story. It’s her first time on TV in four years, but it’s not clear if she’ll be there in person, and it’s likely that she’ll be interviewed over the phone, as she was in the previous documentary.
Then after that it should be a long legal action.
According to TMZ, Wendy is interested in hiring celebrity attorney Joe Tacopina to defend her, a man who has previously lawyered Michael Jackson, rapper A AP Rocky, Rihanna’s boyfriend , and Trump, and is one of the strongest lawyers in the country.
Tacopina is said to have gotten a message from Wendy and is considering the matter.
Joe Tacopina.
It’s likely that future trials will take the form of a jury trial, and the results of Wendy’s aptitude test, on which she scored a perfect score, will be presented to the court, but she’ll likely need to undergo more detailed medical testing to determine whether or not her previous dementia was a misdiagnosis, so we’ll see what happens at that time.
With her escape from house arrest on the line, could Wendy be the next Britney Spears?
Let’s hope not.
