It turns out that on the morning of March 7, the Taiwanese frigate Zhangqian suffered a barrel explosion of its 76mm Otto gun during an anti-aircraft training exercise. Smoke appeared to be billowing from the scene, but no casualties were reported.
The so-called Otto gun is a naval gun developed and produced by the Italian company Otto Mella. Developed in the 1960s and finalized in 1969, the Otto gun was purchased by the U.S. Navy for use on its Perry-class frigates. Where did the Taiwanese Chenggong-class warships come from?

Compared to the original Perry class, the Chenggong class was later fitted with a 40mm secondary gun and its own Xiongfeng series of missiles. However, it has been documented that while the original Perry-class ships had SQR 19 towed line sonobuoys, the Chenggong-class only had a simplified version of the SQQ 89 integrated anti-submarine system, which contained SQS 56 hull sonobuoys, and thus lacked the ability to detect quieter submarines.

The Taiwanese Army eventually acquired several Lafayette-class frigates through bribery and enrichment at various levels. The Taiwanese Army designated them as Kangding-class!
Is a similar situation common in other military procurement programs of the Taiwan military?
Of course, today’s Taiwanese Navy frigates, such as the Chenggong class, are generally too old to be used. The old age is the reason why there are many problems.
